Weathering the Downturn, Calgary Herald<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Employers and workers across Canada \u2013 particularly in Alberta \u2013 are bracing for more rounds of layoffs amid oil prices that have stabilized between $50 and $60 per barrel, for now.\u00a0 Industry experts say companies need to be more strategic to survive.<\/p>\n

Workers meanwhile, find themselves polishing up their resumes and considering all options to weather the latest economic downturn to hit the notoriously cyclical sector,<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can\u2019t just sit still and wait for things to happen to you,\u201d say Jeff Robinson, a Calgary-based consultant for Kepner-Tregoe Inc.\u201d You have to take control.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite the bleak outlook, he adds there is also opportunity where others see only uncertainty and red ink: \u201cWhen these things do\u00a0occur, there are all sorts\u00a0 of ways within a company to save money.\u201d<\/p>\n

That includes re-examining your strategy \u2013 or lack of -to cut costs effectively as opposed to doing so arbitrarily.<\/p>\n

Restructuring outstanding debt, re-allocating people resources to more active and effective areas of the business, eliminating \u2026<\/p>\n
