Working with KT
Performance System Alignment/Change Management
Understanding
the cultural influences within an organization is critical to any
change management initiative. A culture is composed of the shared
values, beliefs, and norms of behavior. It is behavior that expresses
a culture’s
values and beliefs and defines how people work together.
In the corporate culture, behavior can be understood within the
human performance system. This is the collection of variables—situations,
responses, consequences, feedback, and performers—that influence
the way work is done. The KT process
for Managing Human Performance uses a model for human performance that describes the
interactions within this system and how they can be used both
to analyze the current performance and to construct a performance
system that supports change.
Cultural transformation is usually measured in years, not months.
The length of the journey is a function of the degree of change
and the depth of the roots. KT helps organizations define and plan
their journey beginning with some key questions: Why do you want
to change the culture? Is there an easier/faster way to meet the
same objectives? Who sees the need for change? How will you know
when it has occurred? Is the time and money you need to invest
in change worth the benefits you will gain?
Tackling the cultural dimensions that can hinder or support change
are not as quickly resolved as some activities but they can be essential
to creating a world-class enterprise. |
