11 Barriers to Manufacturing Excellence
The term "Manufacturing Excellence" is one that permeates many
industries - and none more than the Automotive industry. Throughout the
Automotive sector there is general agreement that manufacturing excellence
(whether it is called that, or one of the many other terms that mean the
same thing) is a critical strategy for survival and success in today's
competitive market.
But like so many initiatives, manufacturing excellence is not without
obvious pitfalls and hidden dangers. As automotive manufacturers and
suppliers deal with rapidly changing market conditions, technology advances,
consumer preferences, and economic factors they need to maintain their
focus on high-quality, high-volume output. And more often than not, the
push to achieve this leads companies to stumble over one or more of eleven
key barriers to success.
Previously published in US Industry Today, this brief article outlines
those eleven barriers to manufacturing excellence in an effort to alert
organizations to the need for vigilance.
